six dollar movie!

Greg’s reasons for being willing to see Bridesmaids with me on Saturday:

1) To make me happy.

2) “The ‘tighten up’ girl from Knocked Up is in that movie, right? – she is hilarious!!!” {Kristen Wig}

3) It is $6 a person for a matinee in the old-school tiny theater near us.

Yes, people, $6 for a movie, can you believe it?  I then immediately paid $4.50 for a ‘medium’ (aka the size of my head) lemonade but still, $6 x 2 + $4.50 + $4.00 spent on candy at CVS before we got there = $20.50 for two people to go to the movies – yay cheap date!* (*I am such a cheap date these days with no glasses of wine at dinner, it’s amazing how much money one can save by getting pregnant … I joke, I joke.)

Okay but what do you get for $20.50? An awesomely bizarre experience. First we get in there and I immediately know I am going to be uncomfortable the whole time. The seats are rock solid, do not recline at all and are NOT going to be comfortable for a two hour movie. I lasted about 4 minutes before I complained. It was pretty awful. We were only the second couple in the theater and the next set to come in was well … interesting … it was a *much* older couple. I am talking they had to be at least 80 going for a nice Saturday afternoon movie. Umm hello, did you SEE the previews? I didn’t get much from them other then that this was going to be a raunchy movie! Why in the world would you allow your grandparents to see it? But then … another older couple came in, and by older I mean older then the first! Yes really probably 85-90 is my guess. They could barely walk down the aisle. Next was the typical annoying group of teenage girls, still a little ianppropriate but kids are exposed to worse on the news every day. Then, well then, my day was made. Who sat behind me but the mom and daughter set. Mom was probably 45ish and using a cane, I wasn’t sure why until she sat down and unleashed about 15 different curse words to describe the pain in her knee. Her daughter – late teens/early 20s – then told her to STFU she was too loud – which she stated, rather loudly herself as she then handed her a bunch of “the codeine pills the doctor gave me” … Umm hello that’s totally illegal to give others your prescription drugs! Anyway it was quite the group of people in that movie theater. Do you not watch the previews before you go to a movie? If your knee hurts that much don’t you think you should maybe stay home and rest it up? Teenage girls – why did you pee more times then I did? I am pregnant. The movie was only 2 hours.

Speaking of the movie. It was funny. Very funny. I hate to admit that it was not as funny as The Hangover (and I can’t wait for the Hangover 2) but it was a pretty decent portrayal of what it’s like to be a bridesmaid these days. It always seems like someone is trying to one-up someone else. That either the bridesmaids care too much, or too little. Everyone has their own agenda on what *they* think the best plans would be — did anyone stop to ask the bride?  I promise I won’t get all preachy – each of the individual bridesmaids was great on their own merit. I’ve loved Melissa McCarthy since her Gilmore Girls days – what a different role! Ellie Kemper (from the Office) was so funny and had a few great one liners in there. I wish Maya Rudolph had been a little funnier – her role was a bit too serious, or maybe her serious comedy didn’t get through to me. I recommend it, Greg said he liked it. Go see it!

Still of Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kristen Wiig and Ellie Kemper in Bridesmaids

Three other notes:

I totally have a new crush … hellooo Office Rhodes, you can pull me over anytime.

Wilson Phillips = amazing.

Bear sandwich anyone?

tonight

It seems like the crappy weather has really hit everyone hard. “A case of the Mondays” is the understatement of the decade! I typically try to look on the brightside, but when the brightness of the sun has been gone for so long … I think I just might give in. So here is my plan for tonight:

1 – take out the trash
2 – wrap a gift for a friend
3 – cook mac&cheese
4 – eat mac&cheese
5 – get in bed with multiple heating pad devices (nothing to do w/preggers status – just makes me happy)
6 – turn on my tv
7 – go to sleep.

I will be a lucky person if #1&2 are done — otherwise I think I can handle the others.

What are you up to tonight? Are you feeling the Monday-where-the-heck-is-the-sun-it’s-the-freaking-middle-of-MAY blues?

friday funday

When I was in college my best friend and I were smart enough to figure out how to have no Friday classes for both our Junior and Senior years.  We both worked every other Friday — but the other Fridays … well they were for Friday Funday. This usually consisted of

  • Are you visiting me from Molly’s post today? Umm HELLOOO new friends! I feel like a rockstar. Molly is like only one of the coolest bloggers ever and These Little Moments is an inspiration for me. If you have no idea what I am talking about head over there to see how you can totally embarrass yourself along with the rest of us. Let’s just say it includes poofy dresses and big hair!
  • Looking for a baby bump update? I know, I’m slacking a bit. But I have been taking the photos. I post updates and my cute maternity outfits often on twitter. Here is the latest from yesterday. I am 24 weeks. We have a wedding to go to in five weeks … I am hoping that buoy chills at this size for just 5 more weeks because I am still feeling like I’m not too huge yet – then he is free to go hog wild for the rest of the summer.
  • Speaking of summer – I will be spending mine in a gigantic maternity bathing suit (not a super cute bikini as seen below) at either my parents beach house or in-laws pool … at the pool I will look like this:

(you know, if i was like Jessica Alba or whatever) (source -site is kinda NSFW, but not really)

  • And finally one of my favorite new blogger friends who also happens to be pregnant, MK in Wonderland, wrote about 30 songs in 30 days. I’m gonna start with the first five, and hopefully complete the others soon:
  1. your favorite song – the secret of life by james taylor – my dad and I danced to this as a father daughter dance at our wedding. it’s been my favorite since I was a little girl – the lyrics are amazeballs.
  2. your least favorite song – fast car by tracy chapman – no idea why – but when it comes on I cringe and turn the station as quickly as I possibly can
  3. a song that makes you happy don’t go breaking my heart – by kiki dee and elton john – apparently I’m famous for karaoke-ing this song with Greg’s best friend
  4. a song that makes you sad – jesus take the wheel – carrie underwood – it’s a beautiful song but I hope to never be in a situation where I just have to give it all up to someone else (whether a real person, jesus, God, whoever you believe in)
  5. a song that reminds you of someone – Sk8ter Boi – Avril Lavinge – my college roommate Ashley – we used to sing and dance around our room while we got ready to go out. During senior week we may or may not have played it about 7398 times, our suitemates hated us

Annnnnnnd that’s some friday funday for you while I sit at my desk waiting for the weekend that will consist of the Bruins playoff game and celebrating moms of all sorts and Greg’s birthday since he will be traveling on the actual big day next week!

secret single behavior

Charlotte had a hard time after she was married because she didn’t want to stop poring over her … pores. Miranda wore those creepy moisturizing gloves while Carrie ate Saltines standing in her kitchen. Me? What’s my secret single behavior … peanut butter + a spoon. Yup, scoop it out, eat it up. Devour it. Come on, it’s not that gross …

I believe we’ve spoken before about how Greg travels a lot for work. He also fairly frequently has work dinners, like tonight where I’m here to fend for myself. I try to keep myself busy but usually my nights end up either on the phone with my one of my long distance friends or with my laptop on my lap in front of the TV – neither of which isn’t the worst thing ever. But I’m looking to motivate myself to do a few more things for myself. This is when I could or should be going to the gym, painting my nails (I get pedicures, but I pick my manicures so it’s not worth it!), picking out clothes for the week, or even writing a blog post (Hi!). I could also be doing things around the house — including continuing on my decluttering rampage from the weekend or doing a load of laundry, or cleaning the tub so I can take a bath.  Clearly the list could go on and on. I’m not going all woe-is-me on you here. I am lucky. When Greg is around – he is super helpful in doing all of the above things and more (especially the dishes, which I hate). But what I want to know is – how do you handle your spouse or significant other being away? Any thoughts on helping me through some of the longer absences? Also – I have a baby coming, and that doesn’t mean the travel will stop, any ideas around how I can handle that?

Oh and come on … now you know my secret single behavior, what’s yours?
